A Letter to Caledonia 1 Voters
I’m sending out a letter to the voters of Barnet, Ryegate, and Waterford. Here’s what it says:
Dear Voter,
Hi, I’m Debbie Powers, candidate for the Vermont House representing the towns of Barnet, Ryegate, and Waterford. I was raised on a Vermont dairy farm and graduated from Vermont Tech where I met my husband, Kevin. We raised 4 children on our farm in Waterford and I just became a grandmother. I love this beautiful state and am very concerned of what the future holds for our children and grandchildren. Vermont has an affordability crisis. What we had is vanishing before our eyes!
I believe in a Vermont that is affordable to live, work, and raise a family. This is increasingly difficult due to our current state lawmakers, including my opponent. As your Representative, I will stand up to our existing super majority that continues to lead us down the path of uncontrolled spending and higher costs for everyday folks like you and me. This is not sustainable. These increased taxes and fees negatively affect all of us. Vermonters on fixed incomes are hurt most. If you aren’t in this category, it may be a family member or your neighbor. We cannot fund their wasteful spending!
My opponent voted for the following increases in fees and taxes while voting to DOUBLE HIS OWN SALARY (S.39).
(A.183)- Average Statewide 14% Property Tax Increase.
(A.18)- Affordable Heat Act (which it IS NOT) Carbon Tax on home heating fuel. Experts project this mandate could add up to $4.00/gallon of heating oil and propane!
(A.179)- Renewable Energy Standard which will increase electric bills and force us to convert to electric heat and electric cars.
(A.76)- $100 Million Dollar Payroll tax on wage earner’s incomes.
(A.62)- 20% Increase in DMV fees.
I am a proud Vermonter that is committed to be YOUR VOICE for the necessary changes to achieve legislative balance, accountability, and solve the real issues everyday Vermonters are facing with common-sense and business minded solutions. I have enclosed some information about my background and the core values I believe are important. I would greatly appreciate your vote on November 5th.
Kind regards,
Debbie Powers
